Albania was the Last Bastion of Islam in Europe of the Ottoman Empire . And Islam lingered and festered up until after WW2 then it subsided somewhat during Communism until that dwindled away and it reemerged as a major problem in the Balkan conflicts and The Kosovar Albanian / Serbian issues of the 21st Century .
