Yeah, let's play a game

Let's play. The game is First Strike.

How many B-52 do you have airborn alert at everydays basis? The answer is simple - zero.
What does it mean in practical way?
It means that all your B-52 bombers are destroyed on the land by the First Russian strike.

Never heard of stand-off weapons?

Ever hear of stealth bombers? B-52s would mop up after they have taken out the air defenses.
There is no such things as "stealth" bombers. There are bombers with reduced visibility (for obsolete radars). Modern air defence see them quite good.
What is more important, air defence is not supposed to build some kind of magic, unpenetrable shield ower the whole country.
All what they suppose to do - is to buy enough time to launch ICBMs.

It's Zeb (or Mike), if you don't mind. By my military specialty I'm a Chemical scout and I have some understanding of American NRBC-delivering systems, including strategic bombers, and modern Air Defence systems.

there are "stealth" bombers....the USAF uses the B-2 Spirit and are developing the B-21 Raider....we have seen it fly out here out of Nellis AF base .....

What is "stealth" in one frequency is "not stealth" in other frequencies. And there are special radars to detect "stealth" bombers. Say nothing about lidars. They are visible in visible light frequencies, aren't they?

there are things happening that we know very little about....and yes that includes both of us...

And there are a lot of things that are published in schoolbooks and open sources.

Like, you know:

And something like this:

Both Russia and Iran denied that S-400s were sold and delivered (Russia has a lot of places to defend nowadays, too), but most of military experts believe that there are systems supposed to kill Low Observation aircrafts.

And anyway, big flock of B-2, coming to attack Russia, will, highly likely, provoke Russian preempive strike.

Reminds me of all the doom and gloom scenario films we had to watch when I was in school in the 60's and 70's.
Nothing but scenarios of WW3, nuclear destruction, what would be left and what would actually survive in the aftermath.

Nowadays there are nice things, too.

Well Mike, that "crawling" description works in Russia too.
First - Russia is better prepared. Second - when alternative is total genocide, survival among radioactive ruins looks like preferable option. As they sing in the popular song "The noise of Poplars" (meaning Topol-M mobile ICBMs):
"The destruction and starvation will be ended,
Every day will be lighter and warmer,
But all my enemies will be dead,
And buried in the poplar-fluff soft soil"

The question is always what kind of damage and losses is acceptable and what is unacceptable. And when you fight for your own survival - any damage is acceptable.
