would you like to travel tonRussia. nowadays?

i would not

I wouldn't mind seeing St. Petersburg in the summer if only for the old world Slavic architecture, pretty apparel they wear during traditional celebrations and dance, to sample the food, meet the people, and see a bit of eastern Europe.

Maybe chug down some vodka and get real toasted and have a good laugh with a few russians.

But this might not be a good time to do that.

Maybe some day.

SInce my days in Vietnam, I have seen how countries are mostly able to keep up a relatively normal life, even in times of war. St Petersburg is spectacular. I would recommend a guided tour (or two) because it would be difficult to cover even the high points from a guide book, and Tour Guides in Russia are required to be very qualified, unlike the "docents" at some U.S. historical sites.

I'm not sure how tourist visas would work today. Certainly checking with the State Department for their alerts and whatnot would be imperative.
