One of my favorite science fiction book series is Iain Banks Culture series.

The Culture - Wikipedia the free encyclopedia

His novels are Star Wars for adults and they involve an advanced society called the Culture. The Culture is an anarchist utopian post scarcity society. They have cured all diseases. They are hedonistic. They are all about free love. They are basically hippies in space but they are no push over when it comes to war.

They live in habitats called orbitals.

So if a advanced civilization like the Culture visited Earth and allowed Humans to become citizens of their civilization would you join them?

Sounds like a good read. Never heard of the series.

I'm attached to Earth. I prefer a natural setting to an artificial habitat. And at first glance, it appears that a form of artificial intelligence is in charge. Is that really freedom?

In Brave New World, it's a utopia, and the guy (John) who visited from the savage wild is impressed at first, but eventually goes crazy and hangs himself. It looks like there's more freedom in the Culture world, but they have same basic problem. It's better for humans to be sovereign in an imperfect world than to be thralls in a Utopia.

But, like I said, I haven't read the book.

Only if I can have my own knife missile.
