Online, I ordered and paid for a £34 diamond drill bit for porcelain tiles. Do I order it at my local branch, wait an hour until they open, pick it up in the morning, then drive down the road to work?

Or do I order it at their branch down the road, drive down and get there when they open, pick it up and go to work.

Long story short, I forgot which branch I ordered it from and paid for it on my credit card.

So I drove down the road and as I was getting the details off my phone to pick it up, I realised I'd ordered it from my home branch. They said no problem, often happens, they rang the other branch, then they got one off the shelf and said, "There you go, sorted". I asked if I need to sign anything and they said no.

Fast forward 3 weeks, the retailer sent me an email saying they refunded me £34. I thought it was a scam, didn't want to open the .pdf file, but after checking my credit card, yup, the refund is there.

So obviously they keep the item for so long and then cancel/refund it if you don't collect it.

So what would you do? Keep the money or be honest and go in-store and explain that it was refunded in error?

Sorry but I would be straight forward and tell them what happened. I do not believe in stealing. Being quiet about it is basically stealing. But that is me, you do what you want.

.

Something similar happened, although only to the amount of $1.39. I bought two stainless steel dog bowls. They were stacked together and the checker asked me how many there were. I answered "Two", so he scanned the barcode on the bottom. This is common -- when I have multiples of an item, they always just ask how many I'm getting and scan one.

When I got home, there were three.

Stealing a $1.39 item is still stealing. I never felt right until I got the discrepancy corrected.

Yes, 34 pounds is bit much.

See what I did there!
