with a new admin coming in would retired 4 star General be a good choice for Sec of Def ? his commentary and opinions on the conflicts around the world seem to have a basic common sense approach and he seems to be a staunch supporter of peace through strength .. will Trump pick him for the position or is there someone else to better fit Trumps vision on bringing peace .. he declined the offer from Trump a few yrs ago sighting the recent death of his wife .. will he be more inclined to accept the position today ?

I don't know. Has he ever drank commie or radical Islamic blood out of a wooden cup?

If he has, he's the man.

Although I would have preferred R. Lee Ermey, but he be dead now.

You need to adjust your thinking. The point of having the (civilian) President as "Commander in Chief" is that there is a military mentality that can be dangerous, and must be tempered.

The ideal Secretary of Defense is someone who was an enlisted man in the service for a couple years, hated it, then was successful in the private sector. JDV is a good example of the type of person.

The LAST thing you want is a retired general. You want someone who as a general proposition, doesn't trust high ranking officers.

FWIW, I spent 3 years in the Army and five years as a civilian in DoD, which shapes my opinion here.

General Keane is a regular on Newsmax and FOX News. He know his shit about what's going on in the world, and is a great military strategist.

Ermey would have been "outstanding".

Too much of a Uke-bro to suit me.

Give him the benefit of the doubt. He's a true warrior who understands the concept "Peace through strength", and our enemies are only going to fear us if they know we have leaders who could unleash unholy hell on them if need be.

As opposed to the DEI sissies Biden had running the military.

The next Sec Def needs to be someone looking to get us out of all these wars and keep us out of any new ones. There hasn’t been a period in my lifetime where the US wasn’t in a hot war, funding proxy wars or bombing people on the regular. We could use a break.

Pete Hegseth was just nominated.

Let's see what the hearings turn up. If he is qualified, good to go.
