Would congressional R's consider impeachment for the sake of their upcoming electoral chances?

Assuming Vance and Rubio have presidential aspirations they better come to the realization they need to distance themselves from the Greenland insanity or their chances are going down with the ship.

Distancing isn’t going to matter. I can tell you right now that ANY republican candidate that runs, the democrats will try to push that they are “trump 2.0”. The goal will be to get people thinking that any republican will be just like trump, or a “trump 3rd term”.

This is almost a certainty.

Exactly, the entire democrat party platform is,

Trump hatred
Protect illegals

President Trump's approval rating falls to 37%, lowest of 2nd term

I'm not talking just about the midterms but rather the 2028 presidential election as well. Cuz, frankly, there is a veritable smorgasbord of reasons to impeach him. In all likelihood there'll be more.

Just as Kamala Harris was toxic to independents because the Biden admin was blamed for inflation so too will be anyone with ties to this regime in 2028 for a myriad of reasons. I don't need to list them.

Does the will exist within the party to admit it was irresponsible to be complicit in this nightmare for so long? How much more obvious does his instability need to be before they act? If not by impeachment then by reigning him in. Assuming it's possible to do so.
This dude really hates democracy

Trump won

BTW, everyone who says attack trump’s administration hates democracy

At this point my biggest fear is what if the R's stand up to him and he doesn't care? What if they say, as one Rep. did, "I'll vote to impeach if you try to take Greenland" and trump says "**** off, I don't care."
Yeah, unfortunately the chances of something like happening are not zero.

It's also not impossible that our Generals have the final say in this. That's when we could see people peeling off from his inner circle. It could end up being Trump, his retarded sons and Stephen Miller holed up in the Oval Office, repeating their MAGA scripts over and over to each other.

It's impossible to be facetious now. It's come to that. Anything could happen.

Market down 900 points. Flight from US treasuries.
Bessent isn't worried. Or so he says. But Europe is the US’s largest lender with its countries owning $8T of US bonds and equities, almost twice as much as the rest of the world combined. Meaning if European countries feel the need to retaliate should trump do someone irrational regarding Greenland, they have the leverage to do it.

Denmark said it is dumping US bonds. We'll soon see if other countries dump any of theirs.

As the Joint Chiefs said, the $38T of US debt is the #1 threat to the US and congress keeps borrowing and spending.

Until now I've thought of his cult members being confined to the 30% or so of the public that would support him if he kicked a pregnant woman in the stomach in Times Square. I should have realized some of them are in Congress.

A small but growing group of Republicans in Congress is expressing openness to President Trump’s increasingly explicit push to acquire Greenland, along with his desire to punish European allies who resist the idea.

In the days since Mr. Trump began musing openly about taking over the semiautonomous island territory, which is currently controlled by Denmark, many Republican lawmakers have issued vocal warnings against a push to annex Greenland, arguing that it would dangerously divide the United States’ closest allies.

But with the president stepping up his threats and showing no sign of backing down, Republicans across the ideological spectrum are increasingly finding ways to defend or justify his threats — or embrace them altogether.

Trump will speak at DAVOS at 8:30 est this morning. Hope he offers a diplomatic solution.

I see what you did there. Blaming Congress for trump's tax cut bill that's expected to add an additional $3T to the deficit over the next 10 years after selling the bill as something that will help lower the deficit.

I hope so too. Let's say he does. In your mind, does that excuse his batshyte crazy behavior towards Greenland. Like blaming the government of Norway for not getting a Nobel prize. Something he is clearly obsessed with. Or saying he needs to possess Greenland for psychological reasons. Or ignoring the fact that if Greenland were to be threatened by Russia or China it comes under the protective umbrella of NATO.

Yep. I've concluded that his base and his congressional/MAGA media enablers, in general, fall into two camps: Those who have sincerely bought into the cult's stories and function as useful idiots, and those who know full well what is happening and are perfectly comfortable with the thought of America as an authoritarian, neofascist country.

And to no surprise, that mirrors how things played out in 1930's Europe, in more than one country. Our former friends in Europe have been trying to warn us, but watching their commentary closely over the last year, I get the feeling they're beginning to give up hope for us.

If a R candidate has supported trump's policies, or even if he has not spoken out against them, it's a legitimate criticism to make during a campaign. For example, any candidate that hasn't opposed things like the investigations in to Walz, Ellison, Kelly, Comey, James, Powell, etc. should be held accountable for it.

The CBO rescored the BBB, but you need to look at their "assumptions" to see if that 10-year $2.8T, or $280b a year deficit will be reduced.

Accounting for those budgetary effects, CBO’s estimate under House Rule XIII(8) is that H.R. 1 would increase deficits by $2.8 trillion over the 2025-2034 period (see Table 1).

1. GDP growth will be more than the paltry 1.8% average growth, GS predicts a 2.8% GDP growth in 2026, which will increase tax revenue and reduce the deficit.

2. When Fed chairman Powell is replaced in May, the Fed will lower interest rates, which will reduce the $1.1T in interest on the $38T debt currently being paid.

3. Tariff revenue will also reduce the annual $280b deficit.

So the "tax cuts", actually extending the current tax rates, should pay for themselves by creating "growth".
Congress should increase the top tax rate to 40% and eliminate the capital gains tax break to start paying down the debt.

Who could blame them? The congressional delegation that went to....I believe it was Denmark...to convey the message trump does not represent the sentiment of a majority of Americans may appease some Europeans. But the leaders there have to deal with the reality of the orange idiot being prez for 3 more years.

"under the protection of NATO" actually means protected by the US, so if we would be required to protect it we should own it.

That said, a "diplomatic solution" could mean that the US gets some key parts of Greenland excluding the populated areas and the areas with a mile thick ice layer. Also that Russia and China are not allowed to put any bases anywhere on Greenland.

I do t think low poll ratings is an impeachable offense

Yes, and that's why it's a VERY hopeful sign that we're seeing significant pushback from this latest volley of madness. It's so goddamn interesting to watch them wake up EXACTLY the way we did.

But now his madness is affecting them, and their sadness for us has to take a back seat to protecting themselves. This won't be easy for them, but I think they know that.
