It seems like that society was more conformist, superficial, and materialistic during the early 2010s. Reality TV was all the rage. The most socially powerful people seemed obsessed with fashion and extreme dieting if they were women and excessive exercise if they were men.
People seemed more pressured to conform to social groups. People who watched fantasy shows and "Battlestar Galactica" were seen as "people who lived in basements".
Intelligence seemed to be discouraged.
Now comic book and fantasy themed pop culture seemed to have lost it's stigma due to "Marvel" and "Game of Thrones".
There is a "body positivity" movement.
