There are phone scams which particularly target the elderly. They harass and harangue the elderly until the old folk cough cash or their identity information.

I had an elderly friend who was scammed by these cretins. He was constantly convinced he was about to win a sweepstakes if he would just subscribe to this or that magazine or buy this or that videotape.

His living room was literally filled from floor to ceiling with VHS tapes. His family finally had to place him in a home after he was bankrupted.

Now, when scum like this are caught, they go to prison. It is my feeling they should be put against a wall and shot.


But imagine you are a billionaire and you decide to create a fake university. In your ads you brag you have hired the very best people who are experts in the real estate business when in fact they are experts in pressuring and extracting money from the elderly.

Imagine you are then able to steal elderly people's entire life savings to the point where they have to move in with their children and/or go back to work until they die.

And then one day you get caught.

For some reason, when this happens, the wealthy don't go to jail. They don't even get indicted or arrested. They don't even go to criminal court!

Instead, they end up in civil court and end up paying a fine.

This is seriously fucked up, folks.

During the global derivatives bubble, more often called the subprime bubble, Goldman Sachs and hedge fund manager John Paulson colluded to defraud Goldman Sachs's investors.

Paulson was allowed to build a synthetic CDO in which he placed the most toxic securities he could find. This CDO was then sold to investors.

At the same time, Paulson purchased a credit default swap which was a bet that the CDO would default.

This synthetic CDO was labeled ABACUS 2007-AC1, and sure enough it imploded and the investors lost their asses.

Goldman Sachs made a cool billion dollars off this scam.

When they were busted by the government, was anyone arrested?

Nope.

You know how much Goldman was fined?

500 million dollars. Just HALF of the profit they made.
