Fred, you need to take a closer look at who these "rebels" are. They are arguably worse than Assad. They are radical Muslims. Assad, as bad as he is, is not as bad as ISIS or AQ. And I don't see where we have a vital strategic interest in allowing/helping radical Muslims to take over Syria.
