Why do U.S. producers have to raise gas prices?

It's not necessary. If we are "energy independent" why not prove it?
The market it a global market.

Why would energy producers here, not sell to the rest of the world if prices are higher overseas?

. . so the price overseas is reflected in prices at home raising them here.

Sounds like greed to me.

This is why the oil companies should be nationalized. Those are our resources, yours and mine, not Exxon/mobil's

Gas prices are set by the global market no matter where the crude comes from. It all goes into one big honey pot so that the global supply is stable.

Then we are not independent regarding our own oil.

Gas prices have nothing to do with supply and demand.

They’re based solely on politics and public opinion.

Pretty much. They chrge what they think they can get away with and what the public will tolerate. That's why I laugh at people who think paying illegal aliens shit wages makes stuff cheaper. It doesn't.

Oil has been regulated for a long time, especially in Texas, and it was the producers themselves who were screaming for it from the 1930's on. They were all for tariffs on imports, especially from the ME for decades. There is no 'free market' in stratgic commodities, and nevrer will be; they are usually dominated by oligarchies, not free markets.

Domestic supply and demand hasn't changed one iota, and we don't import squat from the ME. Both wings of nutjobs are trying to use the higher prices as political footballs. The oil companies have both PArties on a puppet string.

uh. . . yeah. That worked out so great for Venezuela, Libya and Iran.

Nobody says you can't start you up a Wildcat operation and get in on the action....As long as you can foot the bill for all the regulations and permitting you have to overcome first. ;)

Then we are not independent regarding our own oil.

We are in producing it, semi-independent in refining it, not independent in setting its price because we have a complex relationship with OPEC, our oil industry being privately owned vs theirs being state owned.

So yes, we are independent in the sense that we can produce enough oil to meet our own needs without needing to buy from others, but that does not mean we are free to set any price.

Lol, oil companies secure mineral rights through landowners who do own the land and/or minerals. These are our resources and landowners, private, do get paid by oil companies.

Over 25% of production is on Federal land, and states also lease land.
