Why Congress hasn’t compromised on immigration reform. Why they might soon. Maybe.

What we often hear, mainly from Democrats, is that the solution to immigration is for Congress to get serious about reforming our immigration system. Our “broken”immigration system as Democrats usually call it.

It is blinding the obvious to anyone paying attention, as well as to every single Congress person that the reform will be the result of compromise. The demands from each side are to secure the border and to provide some form of amnesty and a path to citizenship to those already here.

This has failed in the past because Republican Congress folk are afraid to be accused of supporting amnesty and because Democrats really don’t want to secure the border. But Trump’s action in the next few years may provide an opportunity for a real compromise.

Securing the border has been a sticking point. Back in the Reagan era, reps agreed to an amnesty bill in exchange for the promise of securing the border. The amnesty went through, the border security did not materialize. So the Republicans are in the “fool me once” mindset.

But Trump will now secure the border, following existing laws with no need for further input from Congress. Even if a Democrat is elected right after him, that Democrat saw what happened to Joe Biden and will not tear down border walls again.

With the border secure, and the worst of the worst illegal aliens deported, Republicans can be willing to talk about amnesty. They can say don’t accuse me of being week on illegal immigration. I stood beside President Trump for the greatest mass deportation in history! The Democrats called me a Nazi because I was so strongly in favor of deporting illegal aliens!

I believe that even Lindsey Graham could lisp that convincingly.

If you can't secure the border then immigration policy is pointless.

First secure the border and then the state has a say over immigration policy.

But no, they won't. In fact, I doubt they will with Trump and a GOP Congress, just like last time.

meh. IMO, the biggest road block to agreement on the illegal migrant issue, is that deep stater shill politicians on the left AND the right, both want to use this issue to burden all Americans with a digital ID.

This is the dream of all the tech bros., the international technocrats, and the global government.

They want EVERY nation to have a social credit score, like in China.

Unfortunately, Congress isn't really different in character, and neither is the new President, for that matter. If he can get his goals, without congress, he will, just as Joe did.
