Why are the casino workers who lost their job at AC getting special treatment?

I was laid off many times and as an adult I knew the next thing was to file for unemployment and the get the resume together. The media is making them out to be helpless and need so much direction to move forward. We are not talking about kids, they are freaking adults. Then I saw it was a resource center set up for the casino workers today to help them with how to pay bills and get health coverage? Plus it supposed to be a job fair next week geared toward those workers. What about the people who was already unemployed?

This story makes no sense to me

So.... what, you'd deny them job fairs? It's a pretty common thing.

The media focus on it (to whatever extent they do) because it's a "human interest story". That way they can run soap opera and call it "news". Any story with emotional hooks will sell Viagra. Simple as that.

Well they are not special and won't get no sympathy from me. Some of them been employed for over 20 years. I know a lot of people who can't stay employed for 5 years due to no fault of their own

So is your ponderment about the workers, or about the media? It seems to shift...

The media, people lose jobs all the time. Just couldn't understand the concern we are supposed to have for these people

Yep I've always found whining "hey what about me" was the fastest way to accomplish my goals. Nice work.

I agree,it's like teachers crying about having to spend their own money on class room supplies and the media eats it up.
What about all those machinist, mechanics, plumbers, electricians, construction workers...etc. etc.
I dont hear the media crying about them spending their own money on tools.

Our mechanics buy their own tools, some of the tools cost hundreds of dollars. I have bought a laptop, ipad and other such tools to help me with my work.

Never thought of the teacher buying their own crap.

I spent well over ten thousand on tools and equipment as a machinist.
It's about making you better at what you do,thus becoming more valuable to your employer.

Teachers unions also love to bring up grading papers at night and having continuing education requirements as some great career hardship.

I'm a software engineer and if we don't constantly stay on top of new tech in a fast changing tech world our career is sunk. Working off hours doesn't impress, I do it too and have noticed the teacher parking lot at the school across the street pretty well cleared out by 3:30 pm every day, not to mention a couple months in the summer.

It's that entitlement attitude.

i know. they are now talking about giving about more taxpayer dollars to give incentives to mobs to come take our tax money, rake in a quick couple of hundred millions and close up. I still can't believe we are allowing our government, ie christie, to force us into investing in corrupt gambling houses. I can't believe we are letting him to this to us all. Do you think these skilled people that deal, watch security cameras, clean cook and make beds can be taught something more worth while then robbing old and stupid people's money on some pipe dreams that never come true? sounds like the american dream to most for me too.
