At the time I owned mine, I was in Germany so it was set up for Europe. Gauges were in meters. Speed was both in Kilometers and MPH. The Studebaker Golden Hawk had a McCulloch supercharger. The supercharger was available for the 1956 model with the Packard V-8 engine,

Mine was left in Germany parked. I called later to my unit and was told the Germans crushed the car. I don't know it was since I handed my keys and signed the pink slip, to a soldier who promised me he would sell it and send me the money.

This for the time was a hell of a fast car.

Are any here who also owned the American version of the Studebaker Golden Hawk?

Wow. That was bad ass, back in the day. Anybody or government official that would crush one of those should have their ass sewn shut. I found this picture on the internet, reminding me of a James Bond's car.

Damn, and to think I turned into a Lefty after one post of a car.

Since I trusted the Sp4 from CA, when he said the car was crushed, I took his word then. It has been recently that I question he just sold it and pocketed the money. That photo is actually better than my car was. Those wheels really add to it. Mine came with the Packard Engine that supposedly had 385 HP and mine had a top speed I believe of close to 160 mph.

Who had a rotting Edsel in their driveway?
My father owned his Edsel when he bought it new. Traded it in for a new Ford Galaxy. He had good luck with his Edsel.

Always loved that car and the Avanti

Studebaker had some unique designs
I was at the Nurburgring German race track where there I first saw the Avanti. Yep, liked it but never owned one.

Wow. I read it was one of the progenitors of the 60s muscle car. How did it handle and drive on the autobahn? Are you aware sale prices of those cars at auction have run from $41,500 up to $$334,750? Makes you wonder if he was really a friend, doesn't it?

I got out of the Army in 1964 so he might have died by now It drove very good. Back then it was worth maybe at best $4,000

It is an ass kicker to think back to some of the cars, I have owned when young, but failed to maintain and traded for something newer, shinier. $4,000 back then was a chunk of change. My first new vehicle was a 73 Chevy van. It only cost me $3,700 brand new, when I bought it, hardly a classic compared to your Studebaker.

I owned 2 1934 Ford pick ups. 1 1940 Ford Convertible. I owned a 1938 Ford Coupe. I owned a 1938 Packard Convertible Deluxe. Very pretty car. Engine ate too much gas.
I can go on and on. I traded in the Packard in 1957 for a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air sedan. My parents urged me to buy a new 1957 but like a dumb ass I did not.

Do you collect any, now?
You were trading cars when I was about 3 years old. More power to ya! :clap2:

No, I got rid of a Lincoln Mark 4 years back after I sold my then alive dad the Buick I had. The Lincoln I treated as a classic. I once had a barber who was also a car dealer. He took me to the auto auction at Hayward, CA for example where I got a super good deal for the Buick. Unfortunately he was hospitalized and died there. The shop he owned was shut down. This guy was excellent at both hair cuts and dealing with cars. My Lincoln was bought from a private party. When I bought the new Cadillac Seville STS, It was so good I lost interest in more cars. The Caddy has a top speed of about 150 mph and I once took it up to 142 and that satisfied my idea of going fast on an empty freeway.

I had a friend in HS that had a Hawk and 2 Avantis. Don't know whatever became of them.

The car I most beat myself up over selling was my '67 Camaro. Factory 396, M22, .373 12 bolt, tilt wheel and power windows and vinyl top.

Sick fast. Had 12 second slips in the ashtray from the dragstrip in 1967.

In 1967, that was really quick. Some new cars today from the dealer floor do it in something like 8 seconds or faster

I saw a new Avanti when I went to the race track in Germany known as Nurburgring. That was as close as I have got to one of them.
