It's not about party, it's about philosophy.

If your philosophy is founded on the idea that an individual's rights and pursuit of prosperity take priority over the welfare of the state you don't need to be violent to attract people to your side.

When your philosophy is founded on the concept that people need to be controlled and all of their productivity should be collectivized (stolen) you need to use force to intimidate the opposition and embolden the sort of parasite who has no inclination to earn anything.

That is the ONLY reason leftists are determined to disarm the people. It has NOTHING to do with "public safety", it has everything to do with leftist thug safety.
