According to this, 389,000 African slaves ended up in America. By 1860 there were 4 million slaves here. Slave importation was illegal after 1808. From 1808 until 1860, the number of black slaves in America increased by 1,000 percent. If we count Africans selling each other, that's 389 thousand slaves. What about the 3.6 million additional slaves? Africans had nothing to do with that. So 90 percent of the black slaves that were in America by the time of the civil war did not come from Africa.
