White man to stand trial for shooting Black teen who rang wrong door

i feel sorry for the 86 year old man. he was just scarred, and kid was found to lying. hope the case goes the old mans way.
I am under the impression that the man lives by himself. With him being as old as he is now, is that really a smart move? Considering what's happened, no.

God bless you and him and the boy who survived the shooting always!!!

and you need to look in the mirror at the real one.
No need. Not being charged with anything. you are simply a misguided partisan. I suspect their evaluation of the shooter was more based in clinical training than partisan leanings.

you are so out of it. you didnt look in the mirror long enough. this old dude should be left alone. if this had been the other way around the black guy would get away with it. the black parent totally failed this kid.

It's a very sad case, and nothing to do the happy dance over. An 86 year old man threatened with prison is not a cause for celebration, even if he is white.

He clearly had no criminal intent. His attorney should look for a plea bargain that includes Mr. Lester living in an assisted living home with security so he doesn't need to keep firearms at the ready.

That is for the jury to decide, now that his lawyer has failed to prove him incompetent to stand trial on psychological grounds.

My advices is do not shoot through the front door. Wait until they actually do something. Proper identification of target is key, to not going to jail. Shooting somebody outside knocking on front door is risky thing, at best, unless you have cameras showing they are knocking on it with a shotgun or axe. Makes me wonder, if when defense lawyer was called and informed the reason for arrest, his first question might have been "Are you nuts?"

he didnt shoot through the front door. both doors were open .the kid lies. the kid yanked open screen door when he yanked open front door. he got scared. my advice is dont send kids out after dark who cant tell direction to do something you should do yourself. this big wrong on the parents side.

Clearly the old man didn't have the mental faculties to have deadly weapons at his disposal.

The guy probably wasn't allowed to drive a car,

yet he can be put on trial. somthing wrong here.
The process of putting someone on trial is to determine if he is competent to stand trial.

Such a mental examination can only be ordered as a consequence of being put on trial.

process.....

Let's see what the pysch eval says. Hope the old man acts goofy.

He is going to be locked up, so he better act goofy to be better, safer conditions.

On April 13, 2023, Yarl, a high school junior, went to pick up his younger twin brothers from their friend's house. He mistakenly rang the wrong doorbell.

Yarl told police he pressed the doorbell and waited outside the front door. The person inside took a long time to respond but opened the door holding a firearm. Yarl said he didn’t pull on the door

Yarl said he was immediately shot in the head, fell to the ground, and was shot again, in the arm, while on the ground.

-----------Police report--------------
Lester shot through the glass door, hitting Yarl in the forehead and right arm, according to police records.
Police found Lester at his home, where the front storm glass door was shattered and blood on the front porch, driveway and street. Police found a revolver in his living room with two shell casings in the cylinder with live rounds remaining in the chamber.

The facts of the case don't seem to be in dispute. And he was previously determined to be mentally competent (at age 84)
But how he's 86, and his lawyer says he's no longer competent to stand trial.

Not what I read. So, you think the court will not find out, if what you say is true?
Makes a good case for putting in a ring doorbell or other home surveillance, doesn't it? Nothing proves what happens like video.

Well, I am an old man, and normally keep a weapon within arms reach of the door. I have not found it advisable to shoot through a closed wooden door, simply because someone opened my full glass security door to knock on the decorative wood door, and people in the neighborhood know this to be the best method, if not wanting our dog upset by the doorbell. If I cannot see what I am shooting at, I don't shoot, nor approve people that do, out of hand. Of course, I am a licensed carrier, fully trained, in classroom, with shoot and don't shoot scenarios, based on the laws of my state. Some people see no need for that kind of thing. So, I say let the courts decide. You do believe in courts to settle matter of law, right?
