What's the point of religion when we have education now?

"We do know a lot more about the universe than we did a few centuries ago, but we still cannot answer the basics:
1. HOW did we come about?
2. WHY are we here?
3. WHAT happens when we die?
These are still the BIG questions, that science cannot answer. Oh, sure, some pseudo scientists try, but they merely mask their own religious views in scientific sounding jargon.
All that has happened is a changing of the guard. One religion being replaced by another, through cultural & indoctrinating forces. Instead of christianity, which was the majority religion & world view for most of American history, we have secular humanism. THAT is the current religion, which has assumptions about the big questions of their own. Instead of believing in God or a Creator, they believe life is an accident of nature, with no purpose, & no meaning. They construct complex scenarios about our origins that they have no proof of, & do not even fit with scientific reality.

By the way, 'the rest of the human family' are far & away the smallest minority of beliefs on the planet. Most people have theistic religious beliefs, & do not buy the naturalistic view. Some are confused, because the propaganda campaign has been so successful in promoting the new religion, but reality has a way of bringing us down to earth.

We know how the earth came to exist. We just dont know exactly how life got started. Probably a mold turned into a bacteria bla bla and this life evolved into what we see today.

People want to know their purpose. What is a mountains or cats purpose?

How do you verify that the prevalent theory on the world's birth is correct?

You do understand that taking what you've been told is a scientific concensus and declaring it gospel is as dogmatic and faith intensive as believing the bible, yes? Especially considering many followers of Christianity and most major faiths have had experiences that they've interpreted as their god at work in their life. What personal experience have you had that affirmed, even subjectively, that the Earth is the end result of space debris clumping together over time? What evidence can you even claim to have seen first hand?

Any scientist worth a damn would tell you that the incurious declaration that a popular theory is known fact is as unscientific and dogmatic as it gets. Good thing that there are people who continue to dig into the validity of "known facts", or popular maritime trading routes would still be avoiding falling off the edge of the world since, as man was never meant to fly, there would simply be no coming back from that.

Do christians need an example of how they are being lied to and how believing in god is a way they keep us dumb and control us? Just look at what Muslims believe.

They asked 1000 prisoners "do you believe in god" and 1000 said yes. But dont worry. Jesus forgives so no matter what they did they all get to go to heaven. This is why christianity sucks. It doesnt make people good it simply makes them feel better about themselves.

Man has agonized over this because we hate not knowing. Long ago we said "must be god" to a lot of things we once thought were gods punishments and blessings. Some still believe that when a tornado hits its god punishing us for gays and abortion.

and now 'we' say, 'it must be evolution', which is just another form of god. It is not empirical truth, or even testable. It is certainly not science. So the angst of man continues, with only the terms changing. The song remains the same.

Except that the current modern world was built by the more religious societies of the past.

It was a much more religious America that put a Man on the Moon, and led the Free World though the Cold War to the Post MOdern World you are celebrating so much.

The more secular Europe, despite it's secularism, and being larger both economically, and population wise has been the junior partner is all of that.
