Yes, that is Powells explanation making it a pretty accurate one.
Powell may have room as the numbers sit right now but if he cuts the rates and then borrowing surges and then the tariff effects hit hard and prices jump then he would have to raise them up again. That’s not a very stable and secure plan. Part of his job is to manage the rates in a stable secure way. Bouncing them up and down in the whim of a president is not a responsible way to manage the economy

I prefer if the Fed showed us their math so its not just a "Powell said" SWAG, specially their inflation prediction based on tariffs.
I'd love to know which model they are using and what their inputs and outputs are, so we can critique' their methodology and accuracy.
