In most nations around the world the apparatuses of a nation extinguish freedom, innovation and ultimately hope wthin their citizens. They prosper on others dispair. Americas support of liberty is why you have the "American Dream", where someone born poor can rise to success due to effort, talent and perhaps as you suggest, hope. It is evil to destroy a persons hope and yet it is done in most corners of the world, Americans just don't appreciate this. Hold every nation accountable, especially allies. Hope is a broad term, in many ways itnis the fredom to over come challenges in life, including despair, poverty and the like

I think the only things I ever hoped for was a bike, and a pretty girl friend. Once I got these everything else just fell into place.

Most of the problems in the world are just that, otherwise decent people making bad judgments and/or mistakes. Although there are genuinely evil people in the world who cause all sorts of problems deliberately.
