What is "radicalization"? Is TDS the result of radicalization?

My wife has many college professor friends and associates. One couple was always lots of fun and would throw crazy Halloween Parties. They stopped talking to us after Trump won in 2016. They frequently post the most vile things about Trump and "MAGA" on Facebook. I don't ever recall them even talking politics prior to 2016. But after Trump won, they totally changed. Is this a form of Media inspired radicalization? It doesn't seem normal for intelligent adults to suddenly behave this way and cut off friendships because of who won the Presidency.

They're purposely but unconsciously setting up their Rightists classmates who preach that democracy is "mob rule." By enfranchising the uncivilized, "Democrats" have turned it into that. In a free country, we would have a completely different electorate.

I know I overuse this line, but it sums up the entire current situation.
