This is the first thing year of the 12 team CFP. One thing it does is give the committee a TON of wiggle room to give the appearance of objectivity without being truly pressed.

I mean, I would say that if there was only a 4 team playoff this year, it would absolutely NOT be
1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Boise St
4. Arizona St.

I would say 3 and 4 would either be filled out by Penn St, Texas, Notre Dame.. and maybe the slimmest chance of Boise or even Ohio St.

There’s no way they would put Arizona St in a 4 team playoff. Absolutely none. You’d be more likely to see a unicorn running by Hunter Biden as he says no to a line of Cocaine than Arizona St. even mentioned if this were 4 teams

So, why are they 4th in a 12 team playoff? That shows what I talked about… they can appear objective, but we all know they aren’t.

Top 4 conf champions get top seeds. It’s year 1 and will likely change going forward.

Totally agree. They can do it this year because they can include those other teams.

What would a 2-team playoff look like?

The way I understand it, the top 4 go to conference champions. Since there are 5 power conferences, that means one conference champion will be left out of the top 4.

That’s not what the 4-team playoff was. I’m talking about what would be if the rules hadn’t changed

What would a 2-team playoff look like?
Ugh i remember those days

Oregon Georgia probably

You asked why ASU was ranked so high? In the old format it would be GA, OR, ND and Boise State is my guess.

What if we just went back to the numerous regional conferences, the traditional bowl games, and just argued about who was best at the end of the season?
That was complete BS, and often so corrupt.

As a Michigan fan, I can admit that if you go back and look at any metrics of our 1997 Championship… Nebraska was the better team by all of them. Yet, we got the title just because some people said so

1. That’s why you need to play games to decide these things
2. Even if you don’t, this proves it’s a completely faulty system.

How 'bout the days when there was no official playoff game, and the AP #1 in the polls after all the bowl games was deemed the nation champion.

The dumbest system.. but it would clearly be Oregon this year.

Perhaps guaranteeing the top conferences a top 8 pick would be agreeable. A home game in the first round would suffice instead of a guaranteed bye.

Don't care....It's just as politicized today, and the conferences are now a total joke...Everyone is after the almighty buck, and tradition is but a memory.

It’s not the same. Things are better now, The elite teams can decide it on the field

They definitely need to rework the bracket and seeding process.

I think the team with the easiest road is Penn St. at 6.

They get #11 SMU, then if they win #3 Boise. They'd be favored by a TD in both games.

Agreed.

The 1 seed has the toughest path to the finals and certainly the toughest 2nd round matchup of the teams with a bye. Im sure Texas wanted to win the SEC champ game but they benefited by losing it from a PO bracket perspective.

Teams can play up to 4 games. Go to 16 teams all teams play with no byes. And no more expansion. There were arguments of teams that did not make it, and it went from 4 to 12 this year. Reshuffle the teams after each round. Since there are owl games and some are dedicated to them perhaps a number of teams will get home games in the first round.

No, go to 8 teams, that’s all you need, and all you ever needed
