What do you think of the tariffs increasing the price of items at Trader Joe's upsetting affluent liberals?

The price of bananas increased by 20%, from 19 cents to 23 cents per banana.

can not afford it? Shop elsewhere

Is it the right thing to do?

Is the food there good?

Or is it "UnAmerican"?
Isn't that the whole point of tariffs? Increase the prices we pay for imported items so they can be produced here. Those affluent libs will be fine, they can afford to pay more, but those living paycheck to paycheck will be hurting. What could be more American than that? Unfortunately there are things we don't grow here, e.g., bananas and coffee.

i do not believe tariffs are a great idea to begin with. But if another country has a 40% tariff on a countries goods then they should expect a reciprocal tariff. They should not get away with a 40% tariff and expect the other country to have a 10% tariff.
Imagine for a moment that you make (say) cheese and you want to sell some of it in France. The French have a 30% tariff on cheese coming from your country. Does that mean you are going to sell a lot of cheese in France? No because it is higher priced than French cheese. Now if there is only a 10% tariff on French cheese are they going to sell more yes because the price is lower because of the tariff difference.
Yes we do not grow a lot of bananas in the U.S. but we have other items that we can sell countries that do grow bananas. If they put a high tariff on goods that we sell them they should expect high tariffs on their bananas.
