You have to wonder what people are seeing here. The local newspaper and radio programming went all out to depose the current president. The newspaper abandoned the basics of free speech by suggesting that only speech that agreed with its political bent was valid and all other speech was not only invalid but illegal. It actually published this free-speech atrocity along with several other publications in a national attack on free speech that did not align with its agenda. This has happened in Cold War foreign countries, but this is the first time in my memory that it has happened here.
Liberal hosted local radio was on the same anti free speech bandwagon, and it ignored woke violent protests and property destruction while it highlighted a protest of a corrupt election as an Insurrection. The people in the city apparently agreed with this because they voted for the perpetrators in droves.
A corrupt and senile figurehead was removed and replaced with a DEI box checking puppet that city voters blindly lined up behind. This was an embarrassing development in terms of the reputation of the city. The people here seemed to be under the influence of a kind of pareidolia or apophenia. They fell victim to a media-dispensed mass misinterpretation of reality much like witnesses at Fatima who saw the Sun dance. They saw waht they were told to see, they perceived what they expected to percieve.
The people of the city could not detect that an attack on free speech was underway by institutions that built their reputations on free speech. Authoritarian terms like misinformation and disinformation, hatched from Soviet and East German origins appeared and the people could not see the connection to history. The people could not see that criminalizing opposing opinions was a bad idea born out by history.
Thankfully, the rest of the country came to its senses and reality was recognized for what it is. But here the delusion in the city perists. The newspaper and radio programming just picked themselves up, dusted themselves off, and kept right on right on going as if nothing happened. Obviously, this is a weird state of affairs, and you have to wonder how long it can continue.
Is it possible that people in a very liberal and woke city like this could conclude that that they were led astray by city leadership and media in their community? Could it be time for a change in the city?
Let us hope so.
