Anyone here use Waze?

I've got an iPhone 12 Pro Max onto which I've downloaded the Waze navigation app. For a while, everything was great. Connected via Bluetooth to my car, I really enjoyed not having to have a separate GPS unit.

But after about six months or so, the voice directions were being cut short. For instance, if it wanted me to make a right turn onto Maple Avenue it would say "Turn right on Maple Aven...". The last part of the last word never came through. Everything else about the app worked fine, but it just bugged the shit out of me. So, in an attempt to rectify the problem, I deleted Waze off my phone and reloaded it.

Well, now I get no voice directions through the car speakers at all. The phone is still connected to the car via Bluetooth, as I can make and receive hands free phone calls as I always have, and those calls come through the car's speakers. So I have to believe it's an issue with the app itself. For the life of me, though, I can't find a setting that'll allow me to get Waze to come through the speakers. At this point, I'd even be fine with the original issue.

Anyone have any ideas on what the issue could be?

Maybe drop your phone from the bluetooth completely, and then set it up again.

See if there's an update for the app, if not then uninstall the app then reinstall it, if that doesn't work then the problem is elsewhere.

Yeah, that's the bitch of it. The app's got the latest update, and I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it twice.

I was just digging around, though, and found where I could change a setting to play the audio as a Bluetooth call. It was buried in the menus. I turned that on so, when I head out in a little while, I'll see if that works.

It's just one of those little pain in the ass annoyances...

The Bluetooth isn't the problem, as I phone calls connect to the car with no problem.

If the "play as Bluetooth call" thing doesn't work, though, I'll take everything back to square one...

Good luck.

Bluetooth is working; I know that. I'll try plugging it into the console USB (which is in the console armrest). I keep it plugged into a converter which is plugged into the cigarette lighter anytime I'm in the car...

You need the iFone 14 Plus. It'll take care of everything ! $1399, comes with a box of non gluten "corn fakez".

OK
Go into settings/sound and see what's there.OR. Applications and the little star or hamburger control bar.
Haven't used a crapple in years

I'm almost 100% positive that the problem is with the app and not the phone. Phone calls come in fine over the car speakers, so I know Bluetooth is working...

So, this is weird.
Ran to the grocery store yesterday, so I fired up Waze to see if the changes I'd made in the settings made any difference. I punched in the address of the store and... nothing. I guess I wasn't really surprised, just mildly disappointed.

While I was driving I received a text from a client. It was a bit of a pressing issue, so I pulled over to respond. After a half dozen typos (I've got big fingers) I finally just tapped the microphone and used voice-to-text. When I was done I put the phone back in its holder and pulled back onto the road.

All of a sudden I hear a voice say "...turn right onto Wildwood Avenue."

The voice directions were working. They were still abbreviated, but they were back. When Waze speaks, the beginning of whatever it says is cut off. When it first started talking again, what it should've said was "In 1,000 feet, turn right onto Wildwood Avenue."

It's a weird thing, that's for sure. I tried it again coming home and it reacted the same way. It's almost as if I have to kick-start it by using the microphone to get it to work...

It's not unusual. Probably due to the way your car deals with inbound phone calls. I just have Waze play through the phone's speaker.

I've been doing that for a while, but that sort of necessitates having the radio off, or at least turned down to the point where you can't really hear it...

The "issue" is you relying on :lame2: brain tech gobbledegook. Wanna know how to get somewhere ? Look it up on a map. I remember when I got my first car in 1964. Needed to go from upper Manhattan (New York City), to Lake Carmel, NY. Had no trouble at all.

Young people are great at making things tough on themselves.
