Was Kimmel a sacrificial lamb to drum up outrage for the left?

O'Reilly made a good point this morning - he asserts the possibility that Kimmel was purposefully let go to create support for the left's claim of "censorship and cancel culture".
What Kimmel said about Kirk's killer is both ignorant and stupid - but he has been pushing stupidity and ignorance for years. Why now all of a sudden do this? And by DISNEY?? Like they care!

Makes a good point and possibility.

REMEMBER - the right didn't pull Kimmel off the air - DISNEY did.
Well, I had watched a news commentator reporting on the fact that there are some ABC affiliates from one company wanting to acquire the others, but part of the problem was that they didn't want Kimmel's program.

It is something like a $6 billion deal that they want to protect, so it was a no-brainer that Kimmel go out on his ass.

His bosses were relieved

Obviously. Look at these shit ratings!

But government should not of pressured ABC that is a violation of the 1st Amendment, the government pressured ABC and Kimmel is now a sacrificial lamb. The government has no right to pressure a private media company.

Nothing was actually done, just a bunch of talk.

and talk in the open. When the left did it they did it under the table, and went after the $$.

His show has been losing more than 5 million a year for the past several years sooooo..... This is a convenient excuse.
Aye - and the "convenance" - is it also gets to be used to inflame the left who have been WANTING to battle all of this already

Under the table or over the table, our government has not right business interfering with the free speech of anyone. The FCC used a weapon to cancel Kimmel, and that is wrong. The idea behind the 1st Amendment is a basic right of being able to express our opinion, no matter how disgusting, hateful, or depraved it maybe, the government cannot censure us.

If ABC wanted to fire Kimmel, not a problem, but a government ultimatum is wrong.

That is ridiculous.
Governments pressure private companies everyday for a variety of reasons, and have been doing so for well over 100 years.

The FCC didn't cancel Kimmel.

Show me the document doing so.

Not over free speech. Was it wrong for Biden to pressure social media to remove and restrict posts that did not agree with Biden’s ideology?

If it was wrong when Biden did it, it is still wrong today.

It appears that it is Nextstar that is the culprit behind the Kimmel canning.

IRVING, TX (Sept. 17, 2025)—Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXST), today announced that the company’s owned and partner television stations affiliated with the ABC Television Network will preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” for the foreseeable future, beginning with tonight’s show. Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.

“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”

Correct, it looks like Nexstar, a large affiliate with 200 stations, moved first to replace Kimmel with something else. Disney, no doubt knowing this will drive a huge nail in the coffin the show already was - reacted financially.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS CONJECTURE AND GUESSING.

Advertisers pull the strings and pressured ABC to ditch him. Thank God it still works that way. ABC would never do it on it's own.

Its a reasonable theory, but it ignores one key component... "Ego". Kimmel did NOT want to end his career by being cancelled, least of all being cancelled at Trumps behest. He is not going to lose his beloved career just to take one for the team.

You KNOW that he blames Trump for this, and you KNOW that it makes him absolutely furious.

You're celebrating and don't even know?

That fits.

I'm not celebrating. I haven't watched him since the Man Show.

Maybe he should go back to girls on Trampolines.

I am commenting about the current overreaction by the left to said suspension.
