Lindsey Vonn became the first American woman to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics games (2010 Vancouver) in the downhill skiing event.
I saw her win the medal, as her US teammate Julia Mancuso won the bronze.
I enjoy watching sports on TV, and coverage of sports on TV is truly a modern phenomenon (especially the Olympics!).
When I was younger, I played tennis at a New Jersey tennis-club (an indoor training and fitness center called Arrowhead), where I trained with my coach and my awesome Rossignol FT-5.80 racquet.
I kept the racquet for sentimental value, and I've never considered selling it on eBay (though it's considered an offbeat 'collectible' now), but I wonder if I should gift it to Lindsey Vonn to show my patriotic love of American athletes in the Olympics.
That's really the magic of spectator-sports experience in this modern age of media --- you can 'personalize' competitive customs.
If the NFL continues to be boring because of the very predictable victories of the New England Patriots, I will a least remember idyllic moments such as Lindsey Vonn's 2010 gold medal and my sportsmanlike daydreams with my vintage Rossignol racquet (I argue is the 'Excalibur of tennis').
====
LINDSEY: I'm so thrilled with my gold medal.
COSELL: I'm sure you're also happy a foreign prince gave you a Rossignol.
LINDSEY: I know, the vintage FT-5.80 (the 'Excalibur of tennis') -- as a gift!
COSELL: Spectator-sports fanfare is a product of the age of media (congrats).
LINDSEY: I feel so happy fans follow my achievements, and I love gifts!
COSELL: Maybe you'll receive something nice this Valentine's Day.
LINDSEY: Yes, I'm psyched for the 2018 Winter Olympics (in South Korea).
COSELL: Hopefully, there will be no fear of terror/nuclear-war from North Korea.
LINDSEY: We American athletes are patriotic about peaceful global efforts.
COSELL: President Donald Trump feels the same way (about your Rossignol too)!
LINDSEY: Yes, the 'Excalibur of tennis,' really...
COSELL: Congrats Lindsey; hope to see you in Pyeongchang.
LINDSEY: Congrats to America, really.
