In a major milestone in Virginia’s battle against the opioid crisis, Governor Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin announced a nearly 59% reduction in fentanyl-related overdose deaths compared to January 2022. The announcement was made during a public event at the Patrick Henry Building in Richmond on November 13, 2025, where state officials, law enforcement leaders, and families affected by fentanyl gathered to recognize the progress and underscore the work still ahead.

Governor Youngkin praised the broad coalition that contributed to the success, including state agencies, law enforcement, public health officials, educators, and community groups. “With an average of five Virginians dying each day in 2022, we launched a comprehensive effort to stop the scourge of fentanyl. Today, Virginia leads the nation and has cut fentanyl overdose deaths by more than half,” said Youngkin.

At the core of Virginia’s strategy are four pillars: disrupting drug trafficking, strengthening legal penalties, educating the public, and equipping communities with life-saving resources. This multifaceted approach, according to the Governor, has reshaped how the Commonwealth responds to a crisis that has devastated families and overwhelmed health systems across the nation.

It will be interesting to see how those numbers fair once the dems hold total sway come January.

My bet is this is the last report you will see if they knock away two (disrupting drug trafficking, strengthening legal penalties) of the four pillars that got us to a 59% reduction.

I don't see the dems working with the feds.

Come on dude. You see partisanship in everything. Grow your brain. Fentanyl deaths have been dropping like a rock since mid 2023 under Biden and spiked under Trump and not because of Trump or Biden.

Reasons:
1. Narcan - its for sale over the counter now without a prescription - March 2023 just when deaths started plummeting.

2. Weaker fentanyl is in circulation now- killing your customers is bad business. Cartels have dropped purity levels

3. Stuff like you listed Virginia is doing is happening all over the US. Better public health steps are being taken.

4. Fentanyl really got growing 2016 - 2022 under Trump mostly. Its not a partisan problem.

One thing I’ll never understand about some people’s reaction to the fentanyl crisis, is how they seem to believe it’s something solely and 100% caused by illegal aliens and drug traffickers, and the drug users affected by it are innocent helpless victims.

The people OD’ing on Fentanyl are willfully seeking, purchasing and taking illegal and dangerous drugs for recreational use.

I’m sorry, but personal responsibility has to come into play to some extent.

From the way some people paint the picture, they seem to think the people dying are taking what they thought was just aspirin that someone secretly laced with fentanyl. Like the cases of Halloween candy being maliciously poisoned or something.

Again, these people were actively seeking and purchasing illegal drugs that they know are potentially fatal in order to feed their addiction

I am constitutionally incapable of giving a shit about people whose demise was caused by their own criminal behavior. Accordingly, I don't give a shit about fentanyl deaths one way or another.

But I do find it entertaining how many public figures and talking heads cannot seem to pronounce "Fentanyl," insisting on pronouncing it "Fentanol."

Kinda like nuke-u-ler rather than nuclear.

OK, dig up some figures from other states to prove your point.

/----/ Correct. I was a sales rep for the company that developed Fentanyl. I heard "Fentanol"even from anesthesiologists and pharmacists.

I think that’s going a bit far. People with addiction need help and support.

But if baffles me why this particular drug crisis is painted as the drug users being helpless victims.

You’d think innocent Americans minding their own business were just being randomly injected with fentanyl by dealers, by the way some people talk

.

BINGO!

I just about lose it when someone says "Fentanol"

It's fen-ta-nyl

Anyone who looks at "nyl" and says "nol" is about 1000% idiot.

Including President Trump. I wish he had a speech coach.

Are you kidding. The Dems are working with drug cartels.

Every time Trump blows up a boatload of chemicals they scream bloody murder.

People don't knowingly take drugs with fentanyl, they are using something like cocaine or ecstasy or some other designer drug and it kills them, the toll of people killed is staggering.

Just use marijuana if you want to get high, it is safe and natural, no worries about overdosing. If you live in a Republican state, you'll have to use the black market, unfortunately.

A pretty good reason to "JUST SAY NO".

And marijuana is not "safe". It sometimes comes laced with fentanyl.

The only time this is not a risk is when one is using certified medical grade cannabis.

Marijuana is not laced with fentanyl, I'm not sure how you could even do that, all of the dispensaries are strictly regulated, and you purchase your marijuana knowing the THC strength in advance, so you won't get surprised. I always use the lowest dosage available for gummies, and after 3 years of use, I don't need more than 5 mg.

equipping communities with life-saving resources.
Largest drop in deaths is attributable to the ready availability of Narcan, which most of you tRumplings are against for some reason.

I don't see the dems working with the feds.

And that is incorrect, What you don't see now is fed working with Democrats because tRump has taken support from blue states.

OK, dig up some figures from other states to prove your point.
FIRST. From Virginia itself:

Preliminary data from 2024 (as of September 2025) show there were 1,403 drug overdose deaths among Virginia residents, a 43% decrease from 2023. Data are not final until November of the current year and are subject to change.

SECOND for deaths nationally:
2024 was a 37% decrease nationally. Is 43% a little better than average? A little bit, but as you can see its down everywhere. Virginia was responsible for 1,000 fewer deaths of the 30,000 fewer deaths nationally.

THIRD: Liberal cities are seeing similar drops.

Here is super liberal LA county dropping 37%

Here is super liberal NYC dropping 31% overall and 37% in Fentanyl:

Your surrender is noted. You know you guys cant out data me. Next time think about how I will whoop your partisan post if you cant back it up and this wont happen to you.

A bunch of naïve beliefs.

That everyone gets their weed from certified dispensaries, is the first.

Medical weed is legal in my state, but I can't find anyone who knows a thing about the processes by which it is grown and made ready for sale.

I have spoken to a man in my town who was working as a contractor, whose job placed him in processing facilities on the reservation, and he told a story about being in one building that was so full of chemical fumes that he could not remain in there. And it was not weed fumes. He's intelligent enough, with enough life experience, to know that something other than just weed was being processed there.

Why do you think that the reservations told Gov. Noem that she was not welcome there?

You failed when I set you to a task. You failed in that you could not find better results than Virginia's. :laughing0301:

Random injections should be the least of your worries when fentanyl is being found on currency bills. You never know where that stuff is going to pop up.
