Today, I saw a man selling poppies stop a lady and asked if he could re-position her poppy? While doing so; he explained to the lady she should wear the poppy on their left side of her clothing; the red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives, the black represents the mourning of those who didn't have their loved ones return home, and the green leaf represents the grass and crops growing and future prosperity after the war destroyed so much. The leaf should be positioned at 11 o'clock to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time that World War One formally ended.
The Old Veteran was worried the younger generations wouldn't understand this and his generation wouldn't be around for much longer to teach them the history of the Poppies..

The government broke its covenant with men who would join the military. They are having real problems getting them to enlist. And this with a good percentage of the modern males not qualified to join for many reasons in today's Amerrika.

Any man that serves today and moves up as enlisted in rank has to play nurse maid. And the insane thing is if they agree with the politics, it destroys them more because they have to schmooze all of the problems of the people below them. This in a modern military where the tolerance for screwing up is actually less than the past.

Am I guilty if I did or not? There was leeway in older times. And asses who screwed with other people. Just not stupidity as we see today. There was no avenue of talking to higher ups for any issue. And it is not a bad thing today to do that. But then we went overboard. We sign contracts for periods of our lives. And a military one can give you a better civilian life if you pay the penalty of giving up a few years.
