VOCM - Veteran RCMP Officer Charged with Cocaine Trafficking

A 48-year-old RCMP officer who served for many years in this province, has been arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine.

Craig Burnett, a veteran officer who worked with the communications centre in Truro, Nova Scotia, has been charged with theft of cocaine, trafficking in cocaine, laundering the proceeds of crime and breach of trust stemming from an investigation that was launched in September of 2015.

It’s alleged that he stole cocaine being held in an evidence locker in Halifax.

Staff Sergeant Burnett served with the RCMP detachments in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Nain and Bay d’Espoir from 1991 to 1999. He returned to work with the Happy Valley-Goose Bay detachment from 2002 to 2004.

He has been suspended with pay.
