Vehicle safety inspections are a racket for some states.

The one good thing Governor Jesse Ventura did for MN was get rid of that inconvenience of vehicle inspections.
It was just another burden and tax on the poor.
If only he hadn't jumped on the light rail boondoggle.
 
If you think about it, it really is a tax on the poor they cannot afford to pay. People with resources can afford newer cars but the poor can either walk or drive older vehicles or cheat in some way.
 
And why do you have to pay more to register a newer car? Shouldn't all vehicles just be a flat rate for all?

Just think of the sales tax too.
If that vehicle was sold every six months as a hypothetical, the state could make more in taxes than the vehicles actual value.
