The Pink planet, What is exoplanet GJ 504 b and why is is confusing astronomers?

GJ 504 b is a recently announced Jovian planet that rests around 57 light years away from Earth around the yellow dwarf star 59 Virginis. It was picked up by the 8.2-metre Hawaiian Subaru Telescope that operates in the infrared wavebands.

At around four times the mass of Jupiter yet similar in size, this distant world – which astronomers believe is coloured in magenta – is the smallest as well as one of the most ancient worlds that we’ve directly imaged at around 160 million years old. You might think that the strangest thing about this planet is that it’s the only pink world that we know of – but there’s more to it than that – causing astronomers to place it up there as one of those weird worlds that they’re having their work cut out in understanding.

TrES-4b at the right of Jupiter.

TrES-4b is the largest known planet and was discovered in 2006 and in the constellation of Hercules, it is about 1,430 light years away. Transit was the method used for the discovery of this planet and discovered by Mandushev et al. When compared to Jupiter’s mass, it is 80 more and 70 % more in diameter. It is a gas giant and the temperature on this planet is very hot and the year on this planet is only three days long. Though it was discovered in 2006 but was announced in the year of 2007 and is 4.5 million miles away from the Sun.

Vesta is the second-most-massive and second-largest body in the asteroid belt, after the dwarf planet Ceres, and it contributes an estimated 9% of the mass of the asteroid belt. It is slightly larger than Pallas, but about 25% more massive.

Wobble

Gravity attracts all masses to each other, so although a planet is less massive than the Sun, we know that a planet attracts the Sun slightly.

For example, if we looked at the Sun from elsewhere in our Galaxy*, we would see the Sun "wobble" from side to side roughly every four years as the giant planet Jupiter attracts the Sun slightly.

Hypothetical Planet X

Caltech researchers have found mathematical evidence suggesting there may be a "Planet X" deep in the solar system. This hypothetical Neptune-sized planet orbits our Sun in a highly elongated orbit far beyond Pluto. The object, which the researchers have nicknamed "Planet Nine," could have a mass about 10 times that of Earth and orbit about 20 times farther from the Sun on average than Neptune. It may take between 10,000 and 20,000 Earth years to make one full orbit around the Sun.

Yed Prior

Delta (δ) Ophiuchus, Yed Prior, is a deep yellow star in the left hand of the Serpent Bearer.

Yed Prior, the Former of the two stars in the Hand,— the Arabic Yad ("hand"),— originating with the 17th century German astronomer Bayer, adopted by Flamsteed, and now common. It is sometimes written Jed.

is a very distant, broad absorption line quasar located in the constellation Lynx. It is magnified and split into multiple images by the gravitational lensing effect of a foreground galaxy through which its light passes. It appears to be a giant elliptical galaxy with a supermassive black hole and associated accretion disk. It possesses large regions of hot dust and molecular gas, as well as regions with starburst activity.

The Circinus galaxy (ESO 97-G13) is a Seyfert galaxy, very bright and emitting huge amounts of electromagnetic radiation.

Circinus is in a constellation of the same name, Circinus (constellation). It is one of the closest and nearest galaxies to the Milky Way. It is probably slightly further away than Centaurus A.

The galaxy just 4 degrees below the galactic plane and 13 million light years from our galaxy. Its outer ring is 700 light years from the galaxy's centre, and the inner ring just 130 light years from the centre.

is the third planet from the Sun and the only astronomical object known to harbor life. About 29% of Earth's surface is land consisting of continents and islands. The remaining 71% is covered with water, mostly by oceans but also by lakes, rivers and other fresh water, which together constitute the hydrosphere. Much of Earth's polar regions are covered in ice. Earth's outer layer is divided into several rigid tectonic plates that migrate across the surface over many millions of years. Earth's interior remains active with a solid iron inner core, a liquid outer core that generates Earth's magnetic field, and a convecting mantle that drives plate tectonics.
