As someone who spent part of my career placing non-white workers in all white companies in downtown Toronto, I cheer her efforts. Another part of that same job was giving in to demands of HR Creeps who demanded that I send him no black people. Most famously, we had one client who only wanted women working for him who were under 5' 7", under 30, slim, attractive, very smart, and blond. Since the client was one of the richest men in Canada, we called anyone who matched this description a XYZ Company type.
Employment agencies were created to avoid discrimination laws. It was our job to ensure that all the candidates they saw were exactly what they wanted. You can't be sued for any kind of employment discrimination if your firm never interviewed an "unsuitable" candidate. XYZ Company never saw a woman who was old, tall, brunette, or stupid.
We countered this by placing all of our minority candidates every single chance we got, and unless specifically told otherwise, in every all white office we walked into, and in the early 1980's, we walked into a lot of them. I only worked there for 6 months, but I still remember splitting a bottle of wine with co-workers the day we integrated the offices of the Canadian Bankers Association on Bay Street.
Good on this woman. We need more like her.
