Unemployment in the UK rose in April to the highest level in almost four years, official figures showed, as tax increases introduced by Rachel Reeves added to a broader slowdown in the jobs market.
In a blow for the chancellor before Wednesday’s spending review, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the jobless rate increased to 4.6% in the three months to the end of April, up from 4.5% on the previous three-month period to hit the highest level since summer 2021.

Annual growth in regular wages also slowed to 5.2%, below City economists forecasts for a reading of 5.3%
.

Guaranteed and predicted, yet Labour are puzzled. Even a blind man on a galloping horse could see the changes in National Insurance was gonna create unemployment. Talk about being inept.

4.6% is pretty low..

UK problems is that they can't trade efficiently with their closet trading partner because they were sold a pack of lies and voted to leave the EU...

UK should join either EEA or EFTA tomorrow... Won't fix everything but it would stop some of the rot caused by Brexit...

The pro-Brexiters should be tolerated but thought as traitors..

There is no way in hell it is 4.6%. Like Canada, the UK deem some "unemployable". That's code for "police enforced lower caste dweller". They also record part-time as
employed".

I don't know if the U.S plays the same game, I would hope not.

Also,, notice your graph "seasonally adjusted". You can look into what that means for yourself but it's another trick.

If they are calling 4.6% it's probably more closer to 20%.
