Russia planned to assassinate the CEO of a major German arms manufacturer that provides artillery ammunition and armored vehicles to Ukraine, but the plot was uncovered and disrupted by U.S. and German authorities, according to a U.S. official and a source with knowledge of the matter.

The alleged plot targeted Armin Papperger, the chief executive of Rheinmetall AG, Europe’s largest producer of ammunition, whose company makes 155 mm artillery rounds for Ukraine and plans to open several plants inside the country to produce both ammunition and armored vehicles, including the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle. U.S. intelligence agencies discovered the plan to go after Papperger earlier this year and informed the German government, the sources said.

Unimportant? After the reunion of Germany, when we studied the papers which the German Soviets had not been able to destroy I was often extremely astonished how they manipualted and murdered far from any importance.

Example: A member of them who knew some totally unimportant secrets about the GDR fled to West-Germany. He got a job here and broke all contacts to his family on reason not to bring them in danger. "Clan liability" is one of the most successful methods of the regimes ruling with terror. Afterwards the Soviets of the GDR brainwashed his daughter to be a 1000% loyal member of their political party. When she was 18 they told her to contact her father in the West. She came ot teh Weste and said to him on phone she liked to meet him. Instead to meet her the Stasi killed him by arranging a deadly car accident on his way to her. No one here in the West thought about murder in this context. It was a car accident. Indeed they made the daughter guilty in helping to kill her own father - on not any real reason to do so. "Criminal" is a very trivialising term for people who kill someone who is not any danger for them. Also normal criminals do not produce senseless costs without making a profit from it.
