In a randomized trial involving more than 5,000 young women and girls in South Africa and Uganda, none of those who received the prevention shots contracted HIV. The results were published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Wednesday.

“This appears to be a new breakthrough for HIV prevention. If these injections can be widely distributed at low cost, it would dramatically reduce the risk of new HIV infections worldwide,” said Sarah Palmer, co-director of the Center for Virus Research at the Westmead Institute for Medical Research in Sydney, who was not involved in the peer-reviewed study. “It is especially encouraging this research focused on young women in Africa who are so highly at-risk for HIV infection.”

Um...read the OP and the links therein. There has been a very successful study for an HIV vaccine. 100 percent effective for the women in the study! One for men to follow.

If the vaccine works against HIV, then you obviously don't get AIDS.

Half the world population for HIV+ people is in AFRICA. Once again, the West/USA forks the cost of solving other people's problems. Meantime, we already have treatment which effectively suppresses the virus allowing people to live virtually normal lives.

Don't get too excited although this result in isolation looks superb .
The vaccine is Lenacapavir and results to date are for women only .
Men's results to follow in a few months .
This trial was only done last month and longer term effects and full safety effects need to be looked at from further trials .

When I was much younger, I used to look back at the 1800s and think, those poor ignorant people. "Consumption", simple pneumonia, not washing hands during childbirth. They died of such simple things.
