I worked with an Iraqi Assyrian Christian. He had relatives that were still in Syria when I retired in 2012. He was very concerned for their safety as he said that Assad targeted Christians. This targeting is not new. Assad practiced it for many years.

We did not support the Islamists/jihadi, supposedly we supported the "nonsecular" factions like the Free Syrian Army..The problem is the weapons we sent to Syrians like the FSA did not stay in the hands of the FSA. Long story short we did support the jihadi because they simply took the weapons (like JAVELIN) from the FSA
