I mean wow, an upward revision of a whole .3 percentage point, ten percent. Even with that number Trump is halfway through the year with less than a two percent annualized growth rate. Not impressive at all and certainly nothing to crow about. But let's dig into this revision,
Consumer spending was adjusted slightly upward. Look at the technical notes, that was driven by increased spending on pharmaceuticals and health care. Note, pharmaceutical companies typically increase prices in January and July. So the biggest reason for the increase was higher drug prices, do you really believe people are taking more prescriptions and is that really a good thing. Same for health care, not seeing Americans spending more on health care as a positive. And the other component, spending on food services and accommodations. Wow, people go on vacation in the summer, who knew?
Investment was revised as well, in other words, investment didn't DECREASE as much as was previously indicated. DECREASED--uh, where is all that investment Trump said was coming in? Hasn't showed up yet.
Those two areas pretty much account for the slight upward revision. Exports are still down, wasn't those tariffs suppose to increase exports? And imports are still up, wasn't those tariffs suppose to decrease imports? All in all, this revision is damn sure nothing to brag about. If anything, it is a clear precursor to worse numbers coming down the pipe. You Trumpnuts enjoy your small little victory.
