There was a faux "presidential candidate" who appeared on Rowan & Martin's "Laugh In" many years ago, giving bizarre speeches and making absurd political promises...I forget the actor's name...and the meme was continued as though he were a real candidate for a long time. Everybody was in on the joke.

I am reminded of this when I see all the reporting of President Trump's repeated claims to want to make Canada the 51st State.

But this is preposterous, and anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together in their head knows that he is not serious.

Canada would have more than fifty representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives, and no matter how you slice it, the majority of them would be either Democrats or some other Leftist party if they were allowed to break from our two-party system. Same for the Senate. Both of Canada's Senators would be Democrats or equivalent. Canadians would demand the same social "safety net" that they have now, including socialized medicine, which would require that the entire U.S. have the same thing, so that 51st-State-Canadians would not have something better than everyone else. Republicans don't want that.

While the concept is not batshit-crazy - it probably could be done if Canadians overwhelmingly wanted it - the idea that Trump would want to be the initiator of it is indeed, batshit-crazy. It would absolutely be initiated in the U.S. by a Democrat, and the Republicans would fight it, just as they fight statehood for DC and Puerto Rico, for the same reason.

It is time for some Canadian of influence to acknowledge that Trump is just trolling; pay no more attention. It is a joke, no longer funny.

TRUMP is trolling knowing it will result in a hostile attitude from Carney regarding trade negotiations. Carney's focus will not be on what's best for Canada, but instead he's falling into the "I will be the one to take down TRUMP" trap. The 2 are meeting at the WH today and I won't be surprised if Carney try's to disrespect and lecture TRUMP.
All the outrage over TRUMP's bombast is a show. The way TRUMP presents in public is how ALL of these world leaders act behind closed doors. TRUMP is simple exposing what they try to hid.

Again, as you said, Trump was never serious about making Canada a 51st state. Trudeau while Canada's PM trolled Trump never expecting Trump to rise to power again. When Trump came back into office it was Trump's turn to troll Canada.

Seriously though, who would want more liberals?

Carney told Felon47 flat out and face to face, "Canada Is Not For Sale." He told to stop calling Canada the 51st. State. Also you willing ignore that not only did Carney win, his opponent (like in Australian Conservative) lost his seat. No Canada is not nervous about Carney, you are lying....again

And I bet Carney did not say that in private, he did it publicly, in fact very publicly, to make sure every Canadian heard it.

I can't believe there are still people who believe anything baby-kissers say.

I believe you are referring to Pat Paulson for President on R&M Laugh-In.
