Trump’s promise to repeal SALT caps revives the fight on Capitol Hill

House lawmakers are using former President Donald Trump’s own words as leverage to pressure their colleagues into preserving the original state and local tax deduction, with a fight set to take shape next year.

The SALT deduction allows tax payers to deduct up to $10,000 of property, sales or income taxes that have already been paid to state and local governments. Historically, most of the tax payers who claim the deduction reside in high tax states such as New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and California.

But the cap on SALT became law when Trump was president and after he signed his $1.5 trillion tax bill in 2017, using the new version of the deduction as a pay for method. There was no cap on SALT prior to the Trump tax bill.

This is an especially egregious flip flop after he tried to screw blue states in 2017. I can't help wondering if he is claiming the revenue shortfall resulting from the proposal will be more than paid for by the tariffs he wants to impose. Tariffs being a tax on Americans...........which he doesn't understand.

He had to bail out farmers after his idiotic tariffs caused China to retaliate, buying as many votes as he could with subsidies. Buying votes seems to be his specialty in this campaign.

Not just SALT, but OT pay, Tips, and Social Security.

Republicans won't go along with SALT.
If he's re-elected congressional Repubs will do as Don tells them. It's his party. After all, some of them dressed up like trump and went to support him during his NY trial.

Everybody hates taxes including hypocrite democrats but it's all they have when the mentally impaired president is MIA and nobody wants to talk about it.

It's pretty smart. Progs if they are not in power most likely will come ack into it and if they eliminate any of the tax cuts Trump is pushing, then they will suffer for it. This slow down their massive agendas programs. So, if Trump gets a partial on each of his tax cut proposals it is better than the Progs will do. Which is to play class warfare and/or class warfare withing the same lower classes. Notice we have not heard a word about the Trump tax cuts expiring in 2025. Commies gonna Commie. Julius and Ethel Rosenberg appreciation day is coming soon.

There really isn't much left to give away after Dems handed out everything they could to buy votes.
