Oh if only Americans knew, I think Trump does. There is also a sense here that he realizes Canada is just waiting until after the midterms where negotiating USMCA will be easier if Trump is weaker so we will delay after it officially opens up in Summer. Trumps only angle will be to cancel USMCA in a few months and negotiate exclusively with Mexico to weaken Canadas position in bilateral negotiations which is why he is trying to put the pressure on Canada now, he does not want Canada to delay until after the midterms.

Trump is quite aware of the dependence Ontario has with the U.S and his team is fully aware of the violations of citizens here and diametrically opposed to the U.S Constitution. His team engage in deep research to identify weaknesses to force negotiations for Americans benefit.
