Trump should reserve applying tariffs in a focused manner, tell the world carve outs for those nations who have trade agreements with America.

First, I don't believe Trump is going to apply a 10% tariff against all foreign companies. He can let the world know though that he will demand negotiations on trade so that nations can avoid tariffs.

Canada and Mexico have USMCA in place so we should be fine. Nations such as China should be hit hardest of course, followed by other nations who are a risk to Americas national security.

The West should not be bending the knee to communists and their values any longer.

Except the Chinese have already figured out if you set up a company in Mexico, you can ship Chinese goods into the US Duty free.

What we need to do is make our products better and our industry more efficient, not protect people who can't compete.

Of course not. Why would he? This is just another leftist lie. If Trump applies any tariffs, it will be against countries who have abused trade with us heavily and to make it profitable to bypass them by bringing jobs home, so the whole "tariff" thing is a lie. It is merely leverage to force certain countries to either start trading fairly with us or to ultimately losing the trade altogether.

He did the same thing with the border. A president has no direct authority to MAKE Mexico PAY for the border wall, and since Congress would not authorize paying for it, he got some of the money in a roundabout way and the rest by pressuring Mexico to cooperate on holding back illegals, so, he found a way of /indirectly/ getting Mexico to "pay" for the wall by their SAVING us the money on illegal immigration. The net result is the same though as if they HAD paid to build the wall. Pretty clever actually.

But the media lies and won't tell you that because it makes Trump look good.

Which is why TRUMP will be renegotiating the USMCA based on a clause he made sure was included.

Yes, Chinese companies trying to sell from Mexico or Canada will not be allowed anymore if Trump wins, he has stated as much.

Okay, you tell yourself that.

At some point, Canada and Mexico are just going to get fed up with the bullshit of having to renegotiate treaties because we can't get our act together.

Good. We really don't need them as much as they need US.

Are you suggesting the free market needs regulation?

What you don't believe is irrelevant. You don't know shit about Trump. This is the entire problem wth you idiots. Trump says something and you don't believe he means it. And if you think agreements matter to trump, LOL! If you want China to be hit so hard tell Trudeau to do it so you can pay more for the stuff you buy like we will if Trump is elected.

Trump is a blunt weapon, he does not understand nuance or subtlety, this was proven in his first term.

Abolish the unions and pay the workers a dollar a day. Awesome idea

I don't like tariffs and I think they are almost always a bad idea. You essentially giving a break to certain companies at the expense of others AND also at the expense of the American consumer. It's bad economics that is done for political purposes; there are other ways to deal with countries who are screwing us over, protectionism is a very stupid idea.

Well, we kind of do.

But you guys clearly don't understand economics.
You clearly do not understand the meaning of words or logic. Canada and Mexico either need US more than we need them, or they don't. "We kind of do" is meaningless drivel.

The universal tariffs ARE his signature item on his economic plan. Just like the wall was his signature item on immigration. He's gonna do it with the help of yes men.

Not sure you realize what you're saying here. American companies that are unionized cannot compete with foreign products, and consumers are not going to pay a higher price for the same product. These days the quality of union-made stuff is no better than something coming off a boat from elsewhere, but it costs more. Politicians try to get votes from union states by enacting protectionist policies like tariffs and quotas, but all you're really doing is screwing the consumers. Used to be the GOP was against that crap, but now we got Trump, who is not a conservative.

Wanna bet he is more selective once he takes office and/or will have plenty of carve outs/addendums?

He listens to people and will find a balance. He did the same his first term.

It's the same with the JFK files. He said he would release the rest of them but there will still be restrictions for sure if he did. Plenty of redactions etc.

He generally keeps his promises but there is always an asterisk whether he planned to alter them or not.
