This will impact Canada by $10B+ per year apparently.

Trump is squeezing all the juice from the lemon.

Sept 29 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Monday he would impose a 100% tariff on all films produced overseas that are then sent into the U.S., repeating a threat made in May that would upend Hollywood's global business model.
The step signals Trump's willingness to extend protectionist trade policies into cultural industries, raising uncertainty for studios that depend heavily on cross-border co-productions and international box-office revenue.

LOL, I know that the use of the word is not being used literally, but the humor is still there in as much as the left nitpicks every word that comes out of Trump's mouth. I find it amusing that the tariffs are on films produced "overseas." Please enlighten me as to the "seas" that films travel over from Canada to the US.

Actually, the highest grossing film worldwide in 2024 was an animated film from China “Ne Zha 2”

It rocked.

If that's the case, then Hollywood should love Trump.

But of course, they still won't. :laughing0301:

Technically you are correct, this source at Reuters is not the best description.

For the record, Trump was more specific. Also, I had mentioned this about Toronto and Vancouver giving nice tax breaks to attract many movies, it seems Trumps team received the same data:

“In order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States,” Trump wrote.

He did not provide further details on his plans, or a timeline for when these tariffs might be enacted.

Trump’s latest post echoes a threat he made in May, when he said the US movie industry was “dying a very fast death”.

The Chinese got nuthin' on Trump!

A lake is not a sea.

I have to agree with Trump. The film industry as a whole has been producing shit for over a decade. I would say that I haven't seen what I consider a "GREAT" movie OR television show for over two decades and that is foreign or domestic. A conservative estimate of the total offerings that are what I would consider good would be 2%. The industry as a whole needs to do better.

I have to think this will hurt the American film industry more than anything when other countries institute reciprocal tariffs.

It's unenforceable nonsense. Trump needs to squeeze out at least one dookie a day for his supporters and this was one of today's.

I can't really comprehend how this makes sense to anyone..........
