NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump said Friday he’ll send the National Guard to Memphis to address crime concerns there with the support of the mayor and the governor.

Trump, a Republican, said on Fox News Channel “the mayor is happy” and “the governor is happy” about the pending deployment. The mayor is a Democrat, and the governor is a Republican.

He said the city is “deeply troubled” and “we’re going to fix that just like we did Washington,” where he’s sent National Guard and surged federal law enforcement.

Well, this is an opportunity for the Feds to properly work with the locals to help the situation. Guard...meh. However they can work with the state to again "flood the zone" with police assets and prosecution powers.

Memphis is a failed city....no doubt about it.

The crime there is insane and gotten out of control. It has a crumbling infrastructure despite the ports on the Mississippi river. The casinos in Mississippi within convenient driving distance dont do the economy there any favors. (They even have free bus rides)
Then there's basketball and baseball teams....great stuff.

Memphis should be thriving with all the little restaurants and various stores....but crime is crippling the place. (Redneck food plus fine dining with a Cajun flair)
Its actually a decent tourist destination with lots to do and see....if it weren't for the crime.

But it's an extremely liberal island in a very conservative state. And that's been the problem. The failed policies of the Democrats have destroyed the place. The Governor of TN is a stuffed shirt....nothing but handwringing when decisive leadership is needed. But that's what you get from a corporate stooge. The mayor of Memphis is not any better....or worse. He just touts the party line and throws up his hands in defeat.
