I doubt anyone on the Mayflower had ever met the King of England and certainly not the Monarch of France. Squanto had met both.

By the time the Pilgrims rolled in there were thousands of colonists spread throughout this country. There was a functioning Muslim community already thriving in Appalachia. And the real dirty secret, races were intermingling to a huge extent. It was that way from the very beginning.

But the real "proof" of the power of that diversity came in WWI. We were slow getting there, but when we did, well them Yanks were BIG. Average height was almost a foot bigger than the Europeans. And when WWII rolled around, well American dominance was already instilled in our genes.

Kind of funny. This whole feeling that your genes are special, and really, depending on just how "American" you are, they probably are special. But not because of their "purity", because of their diversity.
