The trouble with you folks claiming the Democrats won't negotiate is that you have short memories. When Trump ended DACA in September of 2017 he gave congress 6 months to fix it. Many Republicans in congress sided with the Democrats in not wanting to see the program end and congress came up with bipartisan solution only to find Trump going back on his word.

Trump walks a tightrope between the Progressive Socialists and the sellout Repubs. What the hell do you expect? He talks nice with the Repubs as some are not in his corner. And can spout the same rebuttals back. He does not. It is obvious. Paul Ryan lied. Real lies. This dude had a several year career that rose and crashed and burned because he did not have courage. He will make millions as a lobbyist if he decides to. But history will treat him terribly if our nation falls. It is tough to be of courage and integrity. That is how negotiations start...one side ask for something and the other side says no, then the negotiations move from that point forward. If she had said yes when he walked in the room there would be no need for negotiations

The President made an explicit offer in last year's SOTU address to give 1,800,000 illegals, including all the so called dreamers, a path to citizenship in exchange for funding for the smart fence and the Democrats rejected it for no other reason than the President wanted it and that's why we have a shutdown now. There is nothing else to understand about the situation.

When he signed the last budget bill, no money was included for the wall in that budget.

The Democrats have passed a plan to re-open the government. A plan, the majority of Americans support. They do not see a wall as a necessary part of border security.

Their plan is for open borders. Security is unnecessary.

My opinion is it's a comparatively small amount of money trump is asking for. Whether he's right or wrong, the dems should give it to him so hundreds of thousands of government employees can get back to work. Many of them are involved in the safety business like air traffic controllers, jet engine inspectors, tsa workers to name just one industry affected. This is not the time for our elected leaders to prove who didn't blink first or whatever game it is they have going on.
