In a Republic, actually
‘Trump urged Republicans to “terminate the filibuster” to enact sweeping conservative policies and prevent Democrats from winning future elections — framing the Senate rule as the only barrier between the GOP and guaranteed dominance.

In a lengthy Truth Social post on the first election day since he won the popular vote, Trump claimed that without abolishing the 60-vote threshold, “nothing will be passed” for three years and Republicans will be “blamed” — warning that Democrats would win the midterms and “the next Presidential Election.”’

The Supreme Court will do its part by gutting the Voting Rights Act.

Republicans at the state level will contribute by disenfranchising minority/Democratic voters via redistricting/gerrymandering, eliminating voting venues, and placing discriminatory requirements to register to vote.

Trump and Republicans are serious about establishing an American manifestation of Apartheid.

It’s the tyranny of Republican minority rule.

The more I think about it the more I'm coming to believe Trump is right again. I think Democrats WILL eventually kill the filibuster the first chance they get so they can pack the Supreme Court and make DC and Puerto Rico states. And who knows what other rules they will enact or do away with to rig all future elections. Dems are capable of almost anything. They're lawless.

Oh no! Not democracy!

We can’t have the Senate passing bills with a majority of votes!

It’s the end of the world!

They had a chance to kill it in 2021 but didn't.

They had a chance to kill it in 2022 but didn't.

They had a chance to kill it in 2023 but didn't.

They had a chance to kill it in 2024 but didn't.

Isn't the GOP in the majority?

And didn't the Dems campaign on kiling the filibuster? Didn't they actually try, and lose because Joe Manchin wouldn't go along with it? Then you all kicked him out of the party?

They need 60 votes the permanently change the rules. They won't get it. I doubt they even have the votes in their own caucus to reach 50 on that.

I am not a fan of changing the rules just to suite either of the parties. For one it would give both of the crazy parties a way to force whatever craziness they want on the American people. For another I can see both screaming about it depending on who has the most delegates.

The so called nuclear option was used to kill filibusters by the Democrats in 2013 to appoint judicial and executive nominees and in 2017 by the Republicans to confirm Justice Gorsuch.

The more they lean towards Socialism/Communism, the more likely they will do so to force the implementation of their new form of government. It is pretty clear to anyone paying attention that the Democratic Party is.movong in that direction.

It would seem the GOP is too, if this thread is any indication.

But I still don't think we should be the ones to kill it.

It only take a simple majority to change the rules

I agree with Trump that if you’re going to nuke the filibuster, don’t waste it on the Schumer Shutdown, go all in!

Only citizens count in census and vote

Election Day a Federal holiday, voter ID, paper ballots, same day results

End the Fed and the 17th Amendment too

We should kill it but set an expiration date, like the Dems did with their Obama subs to big insurance

Without killing the filibuster entirely, I think it would be reasonable to add a rule to it to allow clean CRs to pass without a 60 vote supermajority. In other words, you can't filibuster a clean CR vote to reopen a shutdown government.

Avoiding this bit of political theater would be good for everyone

15th post
Killing the filibuster would be a mistake

Because even though it limits the power of the republicans now, it will limit the power of democrats when their turn comes again
