Been watching the old Danny Thomas show among other 50s and 60s shows

If it is decent tv you want, cable isn't going to give it to you.
Only streaming options can do that. Spend a little money and buy a Roku, extremely easy to set up.
Subscribe to Netflix for starters, only $13 a month for 100,000;s of movies and shows. All without commercials.
Look at Hulu as a second service. There is HBO Go if you are a movie person, I think it is $10 a month and a cable subscription is not required.
Cut the cable. Millions have done it and never looked back.
