The trailer looked interesting. The movie is a snooze fest. Despite it's glowing reviews.
I like Joel Edgerton, and much more William Macy and they preform well and produce impelling characters.
But Macy has just barely above a cameo, I would say he is only in the move for 7-8 minutes.
I am betting the book was very good. But as a movie - it moves like molasses in February. Painfully slow.
It - IS - a good story, but it takes effort to stay interested in it.

I have not been able to find anything interesting to watch in quite the while. Last thing I liked was Night Agent on Netflix. I hear Hulu has some stuff worth watching. I just can't see spending money on maybe, especially during hunting season. Not like I am bored. Well at least ya saved me the time of checking this one out

After watching that trailer, I think I'm going to pass, even though I love historical pieces. Another story about someone passing from one era into another, perhaps sad about something or other, building towards his redemption at the end.

😴💤

Not really
It has very little to do with what era it is. That plays a very small theme in the movie.
And he never seeks redemption for anything either.
"Men live lives of quiet desperation" - very well could have been the name of the movie.

I don't like trailers that offer little in the way of what the movie is about, as if my curiosity will lead me to watching their film. Actually, it's the opposite, give me some reason to be interested or don't bother.

They highlight William Macy in the trailers, although he only plays a small role

I finally got around to watching it last evening......I found it more immersive than slow.

I really enjoyed it. :)
Glad you did, like I said, it IS a good story, and the acting is very good also.
Just for me, the story moved too dang slow.

My wife and I had the privilege of being extras in this film. We're early in the film in a church scene. Very nice people in the cast and crew. Treated us like royalty.

It's a very good story in my opinion and the photography is excellent.

Indeed it is.....I saw nothing to dislike about it. :)

The odd part, and likely why I liked it so much, is a friend's dad and his brothers were specialty loggers who logged smaller woodlots on rich people's estates with mules to limit the long-term damage heavy logging equipment will cause.

Trees were felled and the logs dragged out to where they could be loaded on trucks by machinery. Even the laps were reduced to firewood and hauled out by mule-drawn wagon.

Sometimes they were even paid to remove the stumps! Rich people are odd.

They were paid handsomely.....In a couple years you could hardly tell they had ever logged a place.
