You've called attention to an important social issue -- that of the brainwash White America has been subjected to by professional race pimps, by the cowardly, corrupted mainstream media, and by the pandering, profit-driven entertainment industry. The ultimate effect of this combined and concentrated effort has been a subconscious guilt trip affecting a substantial percentage of White Americans who believe that Black Americans continue to endure the cruelties imposed on their forebears by slavery and Jim Crow -- and that contemporary White Americans have inherited responsibility for those past injustices.

I would like to hear from anyone, White or Black, who can suggest in specific terms that all White Americans, or some White Americans are in any way responsible for the condition of contemporary Black America.

There is a distinct element of truth in claims of Black profiling by police and I believe the problem should be addressed because there is an insidious reason behind it. That reason being the wholly counterproductive War On Drugs.

Shortly after Ronald Reagan resurrected and escalated Nixon's War On Drugs the federal government commenced payment of generous subsidies to all police agencies in amounts predicated on the level of their anti-drug activity (arrests). So it follows that police commanders started pushing their patrol cops to focus on drug "collars."

Because statistics show that Blacks are much more likely to be carrying drugs, mainly marijuana, profiling was inevitable. To make matters worse, when police complained that they had to ignore lots of suspicious cars because they didn't have Probable Cause to stop and search them, the Supreme Court ruled that all the police need to "stop and question" is Reasonable Suspicion (which is tantamount to a hunch). This perversion of the Fourth Amendment enables cops to stop anyone they choose to and to search anyone they have "reasonable suspicions" about. And because the cops are following an established statistical model the situation has fostered one of the major grievances issuing from Black Americans.

Because of the greater probability that drugs might be found the cops are stopping and searching far more Blacks than Whites. But the reason isn't racism, it's the drug war. (Which I strongly oppose.)

I've been reading "Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome" by Dr. Joy Degruy. It is said to be the book that all people who are truly interested in understanding the lingering psychological and social impact of enslavement. It is said it will mark a milestone in the understanding of the relationship between racism and slavery. I am about half way through and can see the importance of this book.

Here are portions: "The racist socialization of African Americans began with slavery and continued throughout American history. Whites have consistently been portrayed and perceived as superior, powerful and right. For those who were educated and could read, book after book asserted that blacks, were dirty, lustful, stupid, immoral, incapable of reasoning - inferior to whites in every way. African Americans have a unique socialization experience due to having centuries of systematic and traumatic programming of inferiority. This inferiority covered all aspects of one's being. In other words, from the beginning Africans were taught that they were inferior physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually, thus rendering them completely ineffectual in their own eyes and the eyes of the society around them. At the end of slavery, little changed in dispelling these notions. In fact, since the abolition of slavery such notions have continued to infiltrate all aspects of American life. The effects of almost four centuries of legalized abuse, programmed enslavement and institutionalized oppression can be seen today."

I personally believe that the continued name calling, putting down, stereotyping and hatred that many (and please note that I'm not saying all) white people still display towards black people continues to perpetuate the myth that they are inferior and can not and will not ever do better. Such negativity is in the air and can be "felt" by many and is like a heavy weight to be borne every day.

Here's one other quote from the book by Carter G. Woodson: "When you control a man's thinking you do not have to worry about his actions. You do not have to tell him not to stand here or go yonder. He will find his "proper place" and will stay in it. You do not need to send him to the back door. He will go without being told. In fact, if there is no back door, he will cut one for his special benefit. His education makes it necessary."

When I made the Original Post, and it was immediately removed from Politics to the Racism board, I assumed that was the end of it....but your interesting and reasonable post is a pleasant surprise.

The past treatment of Blacks may well have instilled in them feelings of inferiority of the sort which tends to become a self-fullfilling prophesy. I know I was certainly willing to accept that premise back in 1965 when I was young and filled with the naive liberality of youth.

The book you are reading consists of nothing more than the very arguments made over a half century ago. And a half century ago, they had to be accepted...rather than the alternative argument...which is that Blacks in their native land, subjected to no racial discrimination whatsoever...have accomplished nothing.

Insanity is said to be doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results...which seems to be the Liberal Policy with regard to Blacks in America....who very much appear, in general, to be worse off today than 1965 when Lyndon Johnson brought forward all those policies which were suppose to cure all those psychopathologies your book is describing...as if they haven't been described, and excused, many times before.

Over half a century; and over 20 trillion dollars of debt....is about all we can afford....without demanding some degree of self-reliance and industry---from the Blacks. The Black Family didn't disintergrate during the troubles of slavery and Jim Crow. It disintegrated when Welfare made it a poor financial decision for a Black Man to assume the responsibility for helping to raise his own children.

Your new book is nothing more than a very tired old excuse.

W.E.B. DuBois, a brave Black civil rights activist said in 1906:

"The Black man has got to learn that everything bad that happens in his life is not the fault of the White man".

Do you know anyone who has been struck by lightning? Neither do most people. Yet each year an average of about 300 Americans are killed or injured by lightning. That's approximately 40 more than the number of blacks killed by the police in 2015. Is there an "epidemic" of Americans being struck and injured by lightning? We don't know the number of black men injured by lightning every year, but let's assume the number is 7 percent of the total people struck by lightning, mirroring the percentage of the black male population in America. That brings the average number of black men injured by lightning to about 21.

Out of the 965 people killed by the police in 2015 (as of Dec. 24), the Post reported (on Dec. 26) that "less than 4 percent" involved an unarmed black man and a white cop, the fact pattern most commonly referred to by anti-police activists like Black Lives Matter. Last year, The Washington Post put the number of unarmed black men killed by the police at 17, less than the number of blacks likely struck by lightning. Twenty-two unarmed whites were killed by the police. Any death that results from police misconduct is one death too many, but the point is that police killing of a suspect is rare, no matter the race of the suspect or the cop. And a police shooting of an unarmed black male is still more rare.

But blacks are routinely and disproportionately being stopped, pulled over and/or arrested due to police misconduct, right?

No, not according to numerous studies, many by the government. Take traffic stops. In 2013, the National Institute of Justice, the research and evaluation agency of the Department of Justice, published a study of whether the police, as a result of racial bias, stop blacks more than other drivers. The conclusion? Any racial disparity in traffic stops is due to "differences in offending" in addition to "differences in exposure to the police" and "differences in driving patterns."


According to Philippe Lemoine, writing in National Review, a white person is, on average, more likely to have interactions with the police in any year than a black person, 20.7 percent vs. 17.5 percent. It is true that a black person is more likely to have multiple contacts with the police. But according to the data, multiple contacts with the police are rare, as well. Lemoine writes that 1.2 percent of white men have more than three contacts with the police in a year versus 1.5 percent of black men.

But what about the experience of a black person with the police versus that of a white person? The DOJ's Bureau of Justice Statistics regularly studies this, too. Every year, the BJS surveys a representative sample of 70,000 people. Among the questions, the survey asks whether respondents had contact with the police in the last 12 months. If the answer is "yes," the survey asks a number of follow-up questions, including about use of force.

Let's concentrate on cases involving use of force.

Lemoine writes: "Only 0.6 percent of black men experience physical force by the police in any given year, while approximately 0.2 percent of white men do. ... Moreover, keep in mind that these tallies of police violence include violence that is legally justified." And keep in mind the much higher levels of crime by mostly black males. It is estimated that half of all homicides are committed by, and mostly against, black males.


In 1995, the federal government looked at 42,500 defendants in the nation's 75 largest counties. A government statistician, Patrick A. Langan, found "no evidence that, in the places where blacks in the United States have most of their contacts with the justice system, that system treats them more harshly than whites." So much for the so-called "institutional racism" in the criminal justice system.

Recently, in Illinois, in a kids' 8-and-under football league, the entire team, which appeared to be all black, including the coach, took a knee during the national anthem. Asked why, one third-grade player parroted Kaepernick, saying, according to the coach, "Because black people are getting killed, and nobody's going to jail."
